She needs to stop belting.
She still has a nice tone. If she sings in a lower key, limits the belting, sings with emotion, then the album will be fine. However, a world tour with her past hits is not possible at this moment.

I don't think she shouldn't release the album based on one performance. I mean we still don't know what to expect around the time the album comes
out but if what she did at kazakhstan is ALL she have right now. push it back until next year. I think whitney's voice is unpredictable to the point where
even SHE doesn't know whats gonna happen when she sings. That is a problem. I don't think its as simple as "practice". I really believe she
have been recording alot. for the past two years. Her morocco performance was one where she was regaining confident and starting to sing well enough to perform
live. This performance is a huge backward step right now. but it was also two months ago too. I'm gonna wait until i actually HEAR a new single before i
can know what direction she is going now. I'm not giving up on this album right now. No way! You can't tell me from morocco to this performance. that
she simple don't have a voice any more. Thats about a two month timespan. Something is up but to say not to release the album based on this is out of the
question in my eyes. ITs all up to whitney and her record label if there gonna "risk" taking a chance. As i said if this is ALL we're getting
with whitney as a live performer then maybe that should push the album back but i'm not gonna go that route based on kazakhstan performance.

Vichouston, you called me "stupid". Please try to be polite, and accept other's people's opinion. Although I think this might be a hard task,
as I can see maturity has not reached to you yet.
But please, at least try, and do not never ever talk about me again. Thank you in advance. |

I think maybe all of us should email JRecords and Nippy today and let them know this video is out there. We should make sure that video gets off youtube ASAP.
Honestly, can you imagine what a performance like that does to your ego and self esteem? I just watched the entire thing for the first time and was cringing for her because she obviously realizes that the whole thing is a hot mess and has to keep on going even though she's flopping! Lord, I just wish she would get her act together, pull it together Whitney. It's like watching a car crash in slow motion; very sad. Oh, and that stage. Lord have mercy, that stage looked like it should be for a rock band, an awards show, I don't know. WTF? Something crazy for sure. LOL. She looked like a little ant running round the ant farm, a lonely ant farm at that. Please email jrecords and sonybmg and let them know it's out there. She has enough problems with bad press without having this mess out there for the world to see. Who is Whitney's spokesperson now? Is it still Nancy? Anyone has Warren Boyd's email??? |

i watched the videos again this morning -- and it still is heartbreaking to behold.
Whitney's runs and vocal improvisations used to highlight the strenghts of her voice -- going from bitter head voice restraint to glorious chest belt abandon, seamless transitions from head to chest register, earthshaking creamy riffs and dazzling spinto soprano outburtss. Now, ironically, her very same improvisation techniques only serve to highlight her current vocal limitations and even the damage on her chords caused by years of abuse and misuse. I, as a fan of so many years, will continue to pray for her. Because as long as I see shards of brilliance in her performances, as long as I could hear that she still has an ear for notes and chord progression, as long as I still hear the creaminess and excellent texture of her chest register, I will never ever lose hope. She is The Great Whitney Houston for crying out loud -- lest we forget. She is no ordinary singer and no ordinary artist. I bet she still has tons of tricks up her sleeve. Come to think of it, how many times has she proven us wrong whenever we say that she is done forth? People said she has lost it when they saw her concert in South Africa, they said she won't be able to belt her songs in Arista 25 years, listen to Alfie from Classic Whitney -- and she wasn't even feeling well that night. Time and again, she has proven to us that like dust, she will rise. And so, as her fan, I refure to ever lose hope in her. May God bless her and her pipes. |

I've read a lot now. Just want you to know some facts of that night, so that your reviews could be more positive.
You all know Whitney is a person who always needs a big background behind her - technically and emotionally. I don't know about the emotional status but I know about all the technical problems of that night. There were no organization at all. All other artists performed along the track with only lip-synchronizationing. Thta's the common practice for everybody because the techinic is not quite good at all. And also the TV broadcasting... so it's more difficult to do it live for Kazakhstan. As I know, two techicians were killed by electricity an hour befere show starts while they were doing some hummer job in the corridor with communications. As a result three monitor lines were disabled, two cameras were disabled. Singers could here themselves at all. Whitney didn't hear the backing singers. So we can see this on I'm Every Woman clearly. Three general mixer lines were disabled and mic has no REVERB/ECHO or HALL moderation in the mixer lines. So Whitney sang without any effects just her voice. As mixer lines were distroyed many of her instruments had no chance to play that night. So we could hear only a guitar at times and some backing track on IWALY with strings. Whitney didn't know about the problems before she started. She was deadly angry after all as I know from other Russian singers who took part also in that event and got the chance to speek to her. She was deeply upset of all the organization and didn't expect anything bad cause she was pre-payed USD 1'600'000. So what you can say now? |

After having seeing the performance again, there are a few things i noticed:
- This looked like a performance on a show, not a concert. - She was singing to a backing track, with 3 extra musicians who should have kept silent because they only made the whole performance worse (this is quite noticeable on the abrupt way IEW ended). - The musicians on stage clearly weren't on Whitney's regular band (they didn't even knew what to do while she was talking, or IBYM). - She was having trouble hearing herself in the beginning. - Vocally it wasn't as bad as some of you are saying, and it definetely raised my expectations to what to expect from the new album (she was playing around with her falseto, something we haven't heard since the BG days; when she really tried to make it, the voice would come out loud and clear; and she was singing both IEW, and IWALY in the original key, and the beginning of the climax, and both you's sounded quite good). Finally, I think that mid performance she wished she had cancelled, just listen to the way she sings "and I feel like I want to go home" in MLIYL; and understandably so because it was a mess. Anyway, if she had cancelled last minute it would have made headlines all over the world; this way, hopefully, it will go almost unnoticed. Take care, Rita Whitley |

use of bad language should not be assumed as a natural way of expressing yourself at Classic Whitney's Forums. Examples of not being moderate would
include over-use of emoticons, repeatedly posting without contributing anything meaningful to a discussion, excessive use of profanity and over-reacting:

I have actually just listened to IEW and its the most horrendous performance ive ever seen. Is it my imagination or did the song just stop at the end and
nobody clapped? What a mess. Whitney just died on stage for the first time in her life. Then they started MLIYL and she stopped them.
Im actually pissing myself laughing. Its the most embarrassing thing ive ever seen. Oh dear Whitney, please get it together. |

jasmineuk28 wrote:I don't get your comment, "I'm actually pissing myself laughing"? Is there something I'm missing in translation? I was feeling quite uncomfortable, mortified for her, maybe humiliated as well, but pissing myself laughing, not so much. Sad is another one. I do agree with your last statement though, "Whitney please get it together". I'm not sure she ever will. You know, maybe the whole fame and fortune thing is what caused Whitney to go off the deep end in the first place. Maybe she was forced into her career because of her gift and at such a young age without ever having a choice in the matter. Whatever, it just seems like she doesn't want to really go the distance anymore. She is used to being the Queen of the Night and she's just not anymore. It didn't take much effort for Whitney, when a top her game. It was just a natural, beautiful, effortless gift. BUT, she is in a whole new world now. A world where she is going to have to be disciplined like she's never been before. A world where she will really have to work for it for the first time in her life, concentrating on her physical health, her mental health and the health of her voice. It's got to be hard and I honestly can't imagine what she was feeling when she walked off that stage and during that performance. You go from the Diva of all diva's with mad ovations, people bowing at your feet, people crying at the beauty of your voice to something like Kazakhstan; what a challenge for your psyche! God, one thing is for sure, I'm NOT laughing at her, more like crying for her. |

I could not get through the first video once I heard the cracking in All At Once (will look later), but IEW was not hardly embarassing. I think the whole
atmosphere (crowd, stage, band, background singers) was shit, and I am tired of Whitney performing and pulling a her dress or looking at her shoes, Hell dress
in a way that allows you to perform.
She looked great and actually the IEW performance lets me know Ms. Houston still has it. |

I think there is a lot of over reaction on this board right now. Yes it was pretty bad in parts but we know that she had just turned out a really good show
before all of this. Like I said before it has been apparent that her voice is unpredictable from show to show and from environment to environment. She may be
doing everything possible to make sure her voice sounds good and it just doesn't. I don't know what she needs to do at this point since I am not her or
part of her inner circle. However it is clear that the album will most likely be delayed yet again, not because she couldn't record, we know that she can
still turn out a decent vocal on record. But more importantly because she wouldn't be able to commit to live performances not knowing the state of her
voice from day to day.
But there is nothing about Whitney that looks out of place, she doesn't look high or f-ed up. She looks great and seems to be quite sober, which probably hurts her even worse that her voice will not deliver. Some of you need to realize that it took years of abuse for her voice to get to this point, it will take many more years for her to regain what she has lost, if it is possible at all. Sad but true. No reason to give up on her or call her lazy, she may be tyring harder than any of you realize. |
