This was a great show -- and if you weren't a die hard old Skool R&B Fan, then you wouldn't have enjoyed it because it wasn;t really for you. I think they did a noce job paying homage considering the time they had to revamp the show. That LA Times blog is wack!

I was listening to Ton Joyner this morning and they were talking about this with Jawn Murray. According to Jawn, it was Jay-Z that got Chris Brown pulled.
Jay-Z told Stephen Hill that if Chris performed the tribute, he would pull out of his performance. He also said how Beyonce pulled a diva act. She was suppose
to open the show with a Jackson tribute. She wanted to perform I'll Be There but Stephen said he didn't want to open the show with a somber song and
had suggested other more uptempo songs to get the crowd going. Beyonce refused and had threatened not to perform altogether. Jawn was saying how the producers
didn't even know up until the last minute if she was still going to perform or not so New Edition was brought in to open the show.

I heard the same thing on Tom Joyner this morning. Overall, that show was low class trash IMO. Jamie was down right classless, vulgar and just made the show
triviling (sp). Jamie just disgraced MJ if you asked me. Outside of Don Cornelius' lethargic ranting, the Ojay's tribute was the highlight for me.
Beyonce was a big fat disappointment. I wasted 4 pathetic hours of my life waiting for Whitney and she didn't show. I'll never do that again.

This really was a colossal waste of time. However, I guess I do sympathize with the producers, who were managing the difficult task of integrating a
preexisting show schedule with a certain responsibility to honor MJ in a very short window of time. The highlights of the show to me, of which there were very
few, were:
**Janet Jackson's appearance. It really helped to put MJ's death into perspective, reminding us that he is not only a larger-than-life icon, but also, to the Jackson family, a flesh-and-blood brother and son. His status and antics have made it easy over the years for people to say and think all sorts of things about him, but at the end of the day, he's just as human as the rest of us. A basic fact, but one in need of reinforcement at this time. **I was away from the TV, but still listening, when Heal The World was performed. I was pleasantly surprised the next day to find out that that was Ciara singing. While not perfect, it was pretty good for a last minute performance accompanied only by a piano. Upon rewatching, I felt her no-frills attempt was one of the most sincere performances, as the influence of Michael via Janet is very apparent in her career. And, again, not too shabby a job considering she is mostly known for uptempo dance ditties. I've never heard her sing like that. **I'm unclear why there was randomly a New Jack Swing retrospective, but I did enjoy Keith Sweat and BBD. |

NEW YORK - The BET Awards turned into an impromptu Michael Jackson tribute and preliminary ratings show that it will have the event's biggest audience ever. Nielsen Media Research says the ratings from its 56 biggest markets showed Sunday's BET Awards were up 61 percent over last year. An estimated 10 percent of turned-on television sets were tuned to the BET Awards _ an unusually large number for a cable channel. Nielsen says the show got a 5.8 rating in the overnight ratings. The awards ceremony has been held since 2001 and has never gotten more than a 3.7 rating. Several celebrities, including host Jamie Foxx, paid tribute to Jackson. Thanks for welcoming me. I just wanted to CLUE YOU IN on something from last night's fiasco. People who work for "BET" were paid to hype up the ratings for that show. They were telling MASS LIES all over the internet and saying anything it took to get people to tune in to that dreadful show. I am a HUGE Whitney Houston fan but I hardly ever read message boards and stuff. But last night, I was on a search for information and trying to catch anything of "Whitney" that I could. I found your website. I found out about the "lies" that BET deliberately spread after I called a friend who works in D.C. and found out that his "boyfriend" was one of the people going to forums spreading non-truths everywhere. Anyway. I just wanted everyone to know that. When I checked some of these sources today, they had mysteriously vanished and some of the IP info shows they only logged up to get this mess swirling. The Awards, btw, were the worst I've ever seen. If that's the black talent of today, then we're a disgrace to Michael Jackson and all our ancestors. Anyway, thanks for welcoming me all. |
