I personally only like to hear Whitney do those type of runs because she has that knack of staying techically sound and very crisp and clean. But all of them
are some hellified vocal beast.

Don't care for her interpretation at all. Now, the choir was bringing it.....I focused on them more thna her..now what does that tell you.

Whitneyluva wrote: LOL...you pulled out the heavy guns huh? lol Yes Kim is a "bad mother shut you mouth" and I agree with you, in musical complexity, Kim is definitely the queen. However, I have no doubt that Whitney could learn those runs note by note and do them if she wanted to. But Whitney's influences have always been mostly soul singers as opposed to jazz singers like Kim's so each of them is mostly influenced by the people they allowed to influence them that way. Whitney's voice is technically able to do those types of runs and I have heard her in live performances succeed in doing complex runs. However, I am glad that Whitney didn't really attempt to be too musically complex because frankly, that doesn't appeal to the masses. Kim Burrell will always be rated highly as a singer by many I have a feeling that if Kim started out in RB/Soul, she would not able to consistently have platinum album sales, perhaps gold, but not platinum. People just wouldn't get her musically. I can definitely say that both singers are complex technically but musical complexity is Kim's expertise and unless a person is musically able to hear complex intervals and chords, he/she will not be able to appreciate Kim. But with all that said, Whitney, still has a better voice than both Karen and Kim which will always make her way above them in people's minds. Whitney has a way of connecting with your soul in a way Kim and Karen can't though...its her voice, what a gift! |

This is a nice song. The way filmmaker described it was perfect. After a couple listens, you really feel the emotion behind it, and are able to connect to
her story. As far as the vocals? IMO, its a good vocal, a vast improvement from that Pre Grammy performance. I really don't know what people were
expecting. Her voice has no doubt improved and probably sounds better on other songs, but if you had expectations, I think your responsible for not having
them met, not Whitney.
NO one on this board should take any "insider info" seriously. Unless its from key posters. If you do, your setting yourself up. I for one think that this album will be a great addition to her catalogue. From this song, it seems like the album seems to has the depth and the quality to make it timeless. Well at least that's the hope. When we hear the album we'll see..... ozzie |

The vocals are better than I expected--though she's down in tenor range now. Still not enough to tell if this will be a smash.

I agree with that youtube poster. And the vocals sound slowed down to me too.
Can't wait till we get the original song and/or Peter Rauhofer's mix. |
