It's a nice song w/ very touching lyrics (glad to see Diane Warren hasn't lost her touch).
Whitney's vocals are fine but there is something about the arrangement/flow/melody that bothers me.
Over the past decade or so, Whitney's 2 strongest markets have been the Dance & R&B AC charts. Arista seems to be catering to these 2 genres w/ this song & its dance remixes. However, these 2 charts have very little affect on the R&B or Hot 100 so I hope that there is another song released to cater to those demographics. Whatever Arista does, I hope that they have learned from the MLIYL era - where her songs peaked on the R&B charts way before the Pop charts & thus costing her possible #1 hits. Is it not great to have sooo much Whitney Houston news & therefore Whitney related threads on the board?? It has been too long since there has been this much excitement. |

You know what I UNDERSTAND that people want bigsales etc but you know what I couldnt give a flying one what a nameless, faceless person has put as a comment on
youtube etc.
I love it so for me thats all that counts |

This is the Greatest Love of All -- Part Two.............after it all, she had to find it in herself. I like the joint ALOT (bc its my girl Whitney) but
honestly, I don't want this to be the first single. We need a feel good banger to ride to for the summer (al la One of Those Days or It's Not
Right....).
And I may get shot for this but I kept waiting on her to tear loose -- there was few times where I said "here it comes" -- but it never came. The voice is nice but the song is not what I expected -- it just wasn't big enough for Miss Houston. All in all, i'm just glad that the woman is Sangin! |

New Whitney Houston - I Didn't Know My Own Strength
Jul 2, 2009 AT 05:34 pm Whitney Houston is back with a new song called 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength.' What a powerful thing for Whitney to sing about after all she's been through. This is a great ballad for Whitney to use for her comeback, I like it! What about you? Will this song have her back on people's radars? Can you see her having commercial success with 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength'? http://www.imnotobsessed.com/2009/07/02/new-whitney-houston--i-didnt-know-my-own-strength |

OMG. She sounds a mess. Whose bright idea was it to leave that vocal in @ 2:10?

This song is sooooo beautiful.
....the world is going to melt when we see her perform this live. Arista/Whitney pulling at our heart strings... very clever. |

The song is great but I think Whitney needs something ala INRBIO, something summer-ish, something that bangs. |

This is so far from being on point. Fans,, LOVE THE SONG But this is really a COMEBACK not for the fans. I want our diva to comeback big if she can. Her voice
doesn't sound great on here. LINL vocals are better than these vocals. The song sounds so unfinished. PLEASE ARISTA PLEASE take mixing her vocals
seriously. It's easy to polish vocals in a studio and a simple catchy uptempo song for her to have a REAL COMEBACK>>>> THIS IS NOT
IT>>>

jayeboi, that vocal really doesn't sound good there. I think everything else is passable but that point is almost unbearable to listen to. I cringed when I
heard it.

HOT! She hit this out of the park. It's classic Whitney and new Whitney all in one.
It sounds great and she can deliver it live. The emotion is oustanding without being over the top. This exceeded my expectations. Welcome back.
Like many of you I would rather see Arista release something uptempo first but I love this song. |

Who even said this was the first single?
As far as I'm concerned, it could just as easily be a teaser and a really good answer to where she's been and where she's at. Then she's free-er to get to the business of just musically entertaining. Even being one of the folks super-skeptical of whether we'd ever really hear from Whitney again, and critical/disappointed about the live performances in the last year, I'm thankful for this release. Is there a need already to be bitchy about "it's not what's on the radio right now?" There's a whole album left to hear that's not coming out for another 2 months. Whitney's vocals are definitely less pristine and have more of a rasp than they used to. It's not the Whitney of old, but frankly I'm really happy that they left the vocals real and raw as opposed to polishing the heck out of them with auto-tune. What imperfection is evident is sad but real, and countered with joy and, well, strength. Go on, girl! |
