Photo credit: Olivier Douliery/Abaca Press/MCT NBC’s “Today” was busy promoting two interviews this morning: Ryan O’Neal and Bobby Brown. But the show announced in the 8 a.m. hour that O’Neal had canceled because he wasn’t feeling well, and “Today” hopes to have him Tuesday. O’Neal has been diagnosed with stage 2 prostate cancer. He also has battled leukemia, which has been in remission for more than a decade. O”Neal is promoting “Both of Us: My Life With Farrah,” a book about his love affair with the late Farrah Fawcett. The actor will be in “Bones” at 8 tonight on Fox. The interview with Brown, the ex-husband of Whitney Houston, will air Wednesday. A preview shows Matt Lauer asking Brown about allegations that he got Houston hooked on drugs. Oscar-winner Diane Keaton did make it to “Today” to promote her new film, “Darling Companion.” The chat had an unusual start: She and Lauer professed their love for each other. Asked why she has wide appeal, she said, “Maybe it’s because I’m extremely insecure, and people identify with that.” Keaton said the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which she attended over the weekend, was “an astonishing event” that’s “better than the Academy Awards.” She turned giddy at the memory of former Secretary of State Colin Powell hugging her. Lauer invited Keaton to be his date at next year’s dinner, and she accepted. It wasn’t an interview; it was a love-in.

The fact that this interview even exists is just a continuation of it. And as for the same tired questions about getting her hooked on drugs. Why don't they ask if he was a leach and if she had to pay his child support? Ask if she financially supported his family? Or ask if he use to spit on her? Or if him and his family sold her out to tabloids? How much money did they make? Ask him about the concerts he did the night she died rather than trying to be any comfort to his daughter? Why don't they ask how often he cheated on her? I mean, if they want to ask him something about Whitney, ask him something that hasn't been discussed a million times.

And, whether or not he first introduced her to recreational drugs, something about the marriage to him was toxic enough to get her hooked on drugs, so he has a share of fault, too, no matter how much he tries to slither away from the truth now that Whitney is not around to set the record straight. BTW, now that Pat and Gary have given Bobby their seal of approval, he is free to make up any stories he wants and the press will claim justification for believing him since Pat and Gary have gone on record in his defense (when they could have just said "no comment"). Brace yourselves, folks, here it comes. It's about to get ugly.

There really isn't anything he could say or do that will write over the picture of Whitney in crisis because of him. He can say that he is "innocent" all he likes, but I don't recall him ever trying to make the situation better. I hope he just fades away.

The only reason people gave a darn about him is because of her his late wife. Otherwise he would be as relevant as other 80s pop sensations like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany. Who really cares?

Once Whitney divorced Bobby, in my eyes, he immediately became irrelevant. Once Whitney died, he's virtually nonexistent. I don't particularly care who put him in the clear.

And there will be serious financial consequences for Whitney's estate becaue Bobby can ruin Whitney's brand (most people are not stans checking on the web for truth). Pat and Gary are free to be Bobby's doormats for themselves, but it would be a breach of every trust Whitney and Cissy ever placed in Pat if she fails to protect Whitney's legacy in death. Pat, Donna and Michael, if you are reading, get professional help to protect and develop Whitney's estate (think MJ, Elvis, etc.), and get help soon. There is no time for vacations when the vultures are circling!

Whitney kept her daughter by her side through the thick and thin.
