Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter stated that "I feel like Lebron James and we just won the NBA title... finally!! We have been accepted for a star on the Hollywood walk of fame! Amazing."
Another honoree Futurama star Katey Sagal said "Years ago I was doin' The Walk of Shame. Look at me now."
The Walk of Fame committee stated today that it “is proud to announce next year's honorees whose additions to the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame will bring everlasting memories of their star power, talent, and popularity.”
This year it was noted that Whitney Houston’s did not have a star on the Walk of Fame. According to the Chamber of Commerce who selects the honorees, Houston was selected for a star in 1995, but neither she nor her managers organized a star inauguration ceremony within five years, after which her selection expired. Houston was found dead on February 11 at the age of 48.
Spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Anna Martinez said Houston's family had not requested to have her Walk of Fame star nomination revived. "Her family has not contacted us, there's nothing we can do," she said. She also added: that "We would absolutely reinstate her, the committee would just have to take a little quick re-vote."
The Chamber of Commerce meets every June to select roughly 20 honorees from hundreds of nominations. Once they pick, the honorees get the glory but also have to pay $30,000 for the upkeep of the stars that line Hollywood Boulevard and nearby streets in downtown Tinseltown and draw millions of tourists every year.
