It is our pleasure to introduce non-UK audiences to Leona Lewis, a contestant on the new season of Cowell's Brit show X Factor. Leona's got the looks - and more importantly - the voice. She's got the "It" factor. With plenty to spare! This is what Simon has to say about her: "Across this show, across Idol, across all the other shows. Let's be honest: all the girl singers haven't been very good....until now! You [Leona] are absolutely the BEST contestant I have ever had across any of these shows. And that was an amazing performance." Wow!! Big words from the man who tells it like it is!! Even if she doesn't win X Factor, Leona Lewis will be a big star, and she definitely has what it takes to cross over in America as well. Plus, she copied 95% of Fantasia's vocal stylings......She's aiight with a nice soprano range, but she pales in comparison to Fantasia, Jennifer, and others. Simon Cowell has a gift for overhype. That's for sure.

Posts: 313 Nov 4 06 7:58 PM Banned User Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The performance was alright; it looked very well-rehearsed and too smooth for my liking. Her voice doesn't have the rough edges that I personally like. But you can definitely detect the Fantasia influence.

I can only imagine what this girl will will as she continues to grow as an artist. Without doubt, she stands at least as artistically tall as what we've seen previously from the likes of Fantasia and - thanks to BA's supposed mis-post at CW I remember her name now - Jennifer Hudson who are somewhat limited in their vocal style. Hudson, BTW, remains a no-mark for me like the other girl everyone here raved about (forget her name too but Whitney did a TV show with her a couple of years ago). m.

The girl with the BEST vocal stylings, in my opinion, from all seasons was LaToya London. If you haven't heard her debut album, I strongly recommend it for any fan of vocals. It definitely reminds you of an old-school Whitney Houston album.

I find her voice particularly shrill and the soppy routine is starting to wear thin. Ray is a one trick pony, thank god Ashley has gone and how Nikita has survived for so long is beyond me. I suspect she must be picking up votes either from the Scottish vote or because she has repeatedly referenced the fact that her mother died. I actually feel Simon has the weakest category, even if he does have the most acts left in the show. I think only Sharon and Louis have acts that are virtually guaranteed to reach the final stages of the competitions (Ben and Eton Road). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Eton Road, I am certain they will win. The weird one as Simon calls him reminds me so much of Victoria Beckham! Loved their version of Does Your Mother Know? I could imagine them easily becoming a male version of Girls Aloud. Im saddened the Unconventionals were kicked out first.

Simon picked that song for Leona and I wouldn't be surprised if he suggested to her to sing simular to the way Fantasia sang it cause it sounds like she did the same runs and alibs as Fantasia. She is clearly not the best by a long shot. Maybe her looks cluttered Simons opinion. When Fantasia sang Summertime it guranteed her a spot in the finale and made her the one to beat. Fantasia's version touched peoples soul cause I remember the day after at work everyone was talking about that girl Fantaisia. I just didn't get the same emotion with this Leona singing it.

I mean, it was okay and all, but not that special...When the Randy-dude jumped off his chair and was like 'this is the best performance that's ever been on here yadda-yadda', I was like WHAT??? You live in a huge country like the US, so you can't tell me that's the best you could come up with in all those years...What I've heard of Kelly Clarkson has been much better than that... And Leona sounded pretty good to me. But I suppose that's because she isn't as overhyped (yet), so I watched her performance without any real expectations.

I think so far the 'theme's' have limited her vocals and dtilted her performance. Someone said that her performance was rehearsed and I agree. I'd like to think in the coming weeks we'll get to see her stand behind a mike and sing, rather than sweeping from one side of the stage to the next and trying desperately to get to the part of the song where she can showcase those vocals. I like her but want to like her more. If what we've seen so far is all she has then she's already peaked and for me the peak isn't good enough. I just hope she delivers or is at least given a chance. That said, I have a feeling that we'll see something much better as the competrition develops.
