Not knowing what the actual song sounds like is killing me.

Heres my take
I see nothing wrong with the vocals, we obviously have not heard the final take Some of her lines seemed Very rushed (talkish like)... This audio here seems like I Did'nt know My Own Strength (the live version..where she just sings and talks through) I'm sure and hoping the final version is totally different....But as far as the "vocals" are concerned, i see nothing wrong |

Kim Burrell just was more jazzy with it and used chords to guide her runs and have honed her own style. However, Whitney Houston's runs are still nothing to play with! lol |

I can't wait to hear the real music that goes wiht this song. She sounds so strong on this song....this isn't Whitney of the 90's but Whitney of
2009 and I love it!

I can't judge this song as a whole without hearing the finished production, but imagine if the first time you heard Exhale (Shoop Shoop) or Heartbreak
Hotel it was as an acapella you would probably not have liked the largely subdued, heartfelt vocals on those songs, and fans love the them!
Considering the vocal alone, it's definitely better than JW and OW, and as for MLIYL although that has some great performances are we forgetting that she cracked and was hoarse on Oh Yes and she sounded rushed and ragged on UYCB and YNSA. This is definitely a carefully considered vocal, with lots of fluidity and feeling and I'm looking forward to hearing more. |

WHITNEY has always set the bar for vocals since she has gotten on the scene and now she is doing it again! The bar may be a little bit lower than her bar in 1985, 0r 1990, or 1993 but its STILL high nonetheless. WHITNEY SETS THE BAR, POINT BLANK!!! |

Whitney is becoming a storyteller...i just love the way she starts off the song, as if she's about to tell a confidential story to you and you alone...her
phrasing is impeccable, the vocal runs are almost at Kim Burrell level and the tone is really silky yet powerfull at the same time....think whatever you want
folks, but i'm loving this...
The funny thing about that is, that when you really listen to some of Whitney's older stuff (especially the PW cd), Whitney was doing "Kim Burrell" runs before folk even knew who Kim Burrell was! Kim Burrell just was more jazzy with it and used chords to guide her runs and have honed her own style. However, Whitney Houston's runs are still nothing to play with! lol I have been saying Whitney for years is the best riffer and runner ever. Nippy can do some runs and riffs that yes Kim Burrell and the Clarks can't even mess with and thats saying alot cause those heffas can out run and riff almost any singer. Whitney does this jazz run in SAMFLY Paris 1998 that I never heard any singer do so creatively. Only Whitney! People always was so much into her RANGE and POWER and spent little time analyzing her gift of creative runs and riffs. But thats truly a gift of hers as well as creating echos when she feels like it. |

I was bothered the first time I read the rumor that they would be playing a dance remix in the club, because I knew it would ruin the song for people(especially me!). |

Of course Whitney does not sound like Kim. Whitney runs very tastefully and technical but just as complex as the Clarks and Burrell. Whitney always does
creative inflections, growls, vocal runs, and riffs her entire career. Now that she older she is more returning to her jazz, gospel, and blues upbringing in
her studio recordings which is not a bad thing at all in my opinion. Whitney is sanger, and as long as she sangin and not playing it is all good to me.

I didn't want to sway away from the topic but I couldn't resist. Whitney is an EXCELLENT runner, but she is no Kim Burrell or the Clarks. And it
actually depends on what you mean being a better runner, if you are referring to clean, crisp and quick runs, then yes Whitney can compete with the Kim and is
actually cleaner than the clarks at least on a consistant basis. But if you are referring to difficult runs in terms of the notes then sorry Kim is the queen,
and if karen has Whitney beat in this area. Now when Whitney can do
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwjVwJuAQFo 1:24-1:29 then she can out run Kim Burrell |

I think it's clever to release the song to clubs before it's impacting radio. This approach helps to build an underground following and a hunger for
the song. The usual flow of things makes the remixes sound too much like the after thoughts they truly are. Whit's team has always done it the traditional
way, so I applaud them for thinking outside the box and trying a different approach.

Whitneyluva when Kim Burrell can or any of the Clarks can do this and stay on key and transition into registers then talk back to me. Sure the Clarks are
crazier and louder with it, but Whitney is calm and sneaky with her runs and is very sharp and accurate. Her accuracy is her weapon and her ability to do it in
some many different registers. I am more impress with technicality than noise.

But Whitney can sing better than them, at least in her prime, but three different singers and styles clarks "gospel SANGING", kim burrell
"jazzy" and Whitney 'big voiced diva" but anyways BACK TO THE TOPIC! lol

I love Whitney's vocal tricks a lot more than the Burrell sisters. What is interesing is that some of my favorite Whitney runs are not from her best
overall vocal performances. I love the ending of "O Come O Come Emanuel" and I also LOVED the run at the end of "I Learned From The Best"
during her mess of a performance at the Grammy Awards in 2000.
