There u go, 5 stressed notes (i, did't, know, own, & strength) in a 7 notes musical phrase cannot be very pleasant to the musical ears.

Come to think of it, there is also an implicit stress on 'i' being the first musical note of the phrase.

Rhythmically, the musical phrase of idkmos consists of 6 short notes & 1 long note.
Naturally, in such cases, the obvious and implicit stress would fall on the only long note which happens to be on the word 'own'. Now wouldn't that make 6 stresses (lyrically, musically & rhythmically) in a single line idknos? Just my humble opinion. |

whitney was recording as of this week. we know that as fact. who knows what she was recording or re-recording. everything is digital these days. all the
production and publishing houses need is a few days notice to set up the templates and the art work before the runs. you know the single will come out
digitally well before the physical, at least 2 weeks. i think the deadline for the single and the album is this week. the listening meet & greet is the
final compilation. i'm sure someone will ask and clive will say whether there is anymore work to be done. so whoever is the winner from CW or WF better get
all ur questions prepared and feed it back to us. lol.

I like it alot. I can hear the melody in the song.
Yes her voice is a little raw and could be cleaned up some but, I'm happy the "marbles in the mouth" sound is going away. It does sound like she may have lost more range since 04 but, I think the quality is coming back. The range will comeback with more use. GO WHITNEY!! |

Just another thought - given what the world knows (or thinks it knows) about Whitney's recent past and given her marriage break-up and any other problems
she had, it must have been a bit scary to sing a song as poignant as this.
I mean it seems like it's an incredibly personal song for her (based on how she delivers it) and didn't she say one time that she only sings songs that she can find meaning in ? Surely she knew the media, the fans, etc, would analyse this and read into it what they would - whether that be drugs, divorce, the death of her father, etc. For taking that step, I commend her bravery. |

I'm still not convinced this is the first single. I think this was leaked to build momentum... similar to LINL. I think we'll be hearing the real first
single in the next few weeks.

I still like it for what it is. I think its a nice way to "officially" reintroduce the world to Whitneys music and get the public at large talking
about the music again. We know for a fact that there will be (at least one) more ballads on the album in the R Kelly track (I Look To You). This song has been
super hyped by Clive and Co (to the extent that the album has been named after this track.)
I like IDKMOS for the simple reason that its the most honest lyric I have ever heard from Whitney and at ths stage of her career, it resonates with me becasue of its poignancy, vulnerability and delivery. Its the first time that I feel the woman behind the diva without the bombastic & power vocals & I love it for that alone. The flip side of that is that I (honestly) cannot say that I love this more than ILFTB. I think ILFTB was better written & more well 'put together' song in terms of its production and lyrical content. IDKMOS just feels more personal, and whilst I love it for that, Im not feeling it as a first single (in this or a rehashed format) and I remain 100% commmited to Whitney and her journey and look forward to the new album, now more than ever. |

It strike me funny that i still compare the new songs with her earlier work. I think to make things easier is to reframe Whitney as she is now, with that new
sound, new voice etc.
Change is not neccersairly a bad thing and i kinda like it that i can peer her up with the raw soulsingers that the angelic popsingers, as this might not be popular believe. |

results is similar to what i've seen across the board. 'love it' and 'can't stand it' is about 50/50. undecided votes would swing if arista can fix the production values to what people are saying here..from music blogger The Prophet.src: http://hiphop-prophet.blogspot.com/ Do you like Whitney's new single "I Didn't Know My Own Strength"?

^well that is a hip-hop site so what do you expect? I'm guessing that crowd wouldn't be too keen on any kind of ballad- this song is definitely not
marketed for them.
I'd venture to guess if you listed a poll with older people into AC music the results would be quite different. So for Mariah you're known as the guy who post every single positive review you can find online- I see that doesn't extend to Whitney...lol (j/k....kinda) |
