exactly rainshower. the "aight" group is more or less the undecided.. 'it's ok, but if something were changed i would be in the love it category..' voters. again if the production values were changed it could make many of the aight category move to love it category.

Well, I think people can just throw out the 50/50 results and look at the real winning percentage....most people think this song is OK. I'd have hoped for something that made non Whitney fans a little more excited.

i know one thing you can' t simply ignore the "non" fans opinions on the single either. I mean they count especially when it comes to a major comeback like whitney's. I just hope that clive haven't loss touch with reality here. Lets not be too quick to believe ANY first single will do here. As fans we may love the song but its not a song where you would get most good reviews for. Its a hit and miss single here. 50/50 and some of those polls are because this board and a few others are voting for whitney to win. There is no sure fire about it. I still say its way to risky as this point. also going "Current" doesn't mean rappers or anything like that.. it means a fresh up to date production. this is not Current and they didn't make it current either.

The song can also grow on people too. Not everybody may love it at first listen but eventually can come to like/love it or not.

agree, co-sign. up to date doesn't mean gangsta rap, current hip hop autotune or the like. the arrangement needs to be up to date. they made this dated to the early-mid 90's on purpose when it didn't have to be and still convey the same emotions. foster/warren combo is dated and doesn't work in today's market unless whit is strictly an AC, blues/jazz singer.

^What are you talking about? There isn't even one Whitney album that I like every song on. I hated, "Try it on my own" and to this day still can't play that song. I've said it many times and I honestly believe that differences of opinions are a great starting place for good conversations. I respect the opinions of those who don't like the song- I just don't believe online polls carry much weight.

That's the thing about these online polls. Too many people that are voting have agendas. A little known fact, 'Diva fans are crazy' and they are threatened so they do things like vote in polls to influence them. Silly and juvenile as it is, that's the main reason these polls should be taken with a grain of salt, IMO.

Here is my opinion the song sounds like a through back to the 90's as far as arrangement and production. So your mind is in the 90's and then the vocals keep pulling you back to reality. At first I was like something is missing. The missing piece for this song ,in its current state, is 90's vocals. I know I will get cussed out for that. Regardless of what Whitney has gone through, this entire comeback will rest on her VOICE alone. She will get some sympathy love, but in the end its the VOICE. Now if this song had todays production and arrangment with her current voice it would have went over pretty well. So unless they have re-recorded with far superior vocals Houston we may have a problem.

Everybody (media, peers and fans of all ages) wants her have success. They understand that she is the best vocalist known to man. So she just has got to bring and leave it all on the CD.

no i know what i'm talking about.. How come MOST of the fans even on this very board have mostly all said "they like the song but do think its first single material"? Most of this very board have done that. Imagine what the rest of the would feel about this song. IT won't work. It won't work. Give me a reason why you think it will work and i will have 10 reason why it won't work as a first single. its been proven for the last 10 years why this formala doesn't work anymore. You can ignore the polls and reaction all you want but give me a reason why it will work. Clive cannot but this senile to believe it will. The radio haven't even touched this single yet. Normally when you have a first single the radio will react to it pretty quickly IF its a sure fire single. A "can 't miss" single. They haven't touched it yet and most likely won't. Its also not putting the fan in the position to make this album successful either. You know when most of your own fans believe its not good enough then you should make adjustments quickly.

To each his/her own. Whether this will be first single or not, in my opinion it is worthy to be included in the album and a very good way to 're-introduce' Whitney's return.

I am going to say again, Arista time is running out for you to name the first single and start doing the 'proper' promotion now!!!

I'm played this song several times this morning and the lines, '...lost sight of my dreams,thought it would be the end of me, I thought that I wouldn't make it through, I had no hope to hold on through, i thought I would break..... are haunting to me. These may be the most autobiographical lyrics pertaining to Whitney we may have heard her sing in any of her songs.

Regarding the song, for the over 30 crowd, the crowd who purchases music, this will do. However, the things that can be done better absolutely have to do with the production and to a lesser extent Whitney. I hear this song crying out for a choir. The rough edges don't bother me because it could be authenticity that we are looking for. Scratchy vocals, singing off key never kept Mary j Blige from selling records... people just said that she was 'keeping it real'.

As a fan, I am happy but if they would go back and properly mix/engineer and perhaps add a choir or better backing layers, i would be ecstatic.

Those online polls are to be taken with a grain of salt as someone upthread stated. I know that stray lambs (many of them) out of insecurity are skewing the poll results. That is not to say that would others have listed as constructive criticisms are not valid.

MOST of us agree that this single should NOT be the first single, or possibly the 3rd or 4th either.. it is good enough to be a slow ballad for the album like brit's "everytime" or MJ's "gone too soon" for the AC and gospel markets (with modified changes of course). had this not been leaked as a potential single none of us would be taking about it. i wish arista would say officially along the lines that it's not a single, record is not done, or a sample of raw vocals first take, etc.. but as usual they have said nothing. meh.

I copied the lyrics from Whitney-fan. Whoever said these lyrics are childish/cliche or whatever, needs a knock upside their head. the problem is that we are so conditioned to hearing crap on the radio, '...you're a jerk, you're a jerk' or '..i hope up out the bed, turn my swag on..', or 'you shoulda put a ring on it..', ' i wish that i could *uck all the women in the word' that when we see/hear great lyrics that tell a story, some don't know how to receive it.
