Hi...It's almost 2am and I'm wiped out (between champagne at the event, spirits
before my birthday dinner at Galvins and wine on the table...). I will do a "proper" update about tonight (yesterday's) London listening event
for 'I Look To You' - probably tomorrow. I can see a LOT of it is already out there.
I was really honoured to have been invited - so I don't take that for granted (and the people who made it happen are just great). Whatever I say right now
won't be enough - I know that as a fan myself....
That iconic picture you've all now already seen of Whitney from the backdrop of the event (see below - yea, I'm in the way - I have a manish free
version too) is apparently the album cover. My initial thought was that it was reminiscent of her debut album cover in some ways.
Over the space of 90 minutes, Clive Davis articulated some of the thinking behind this album and the process of putting it together. There were some
interesting observations which I'll share tomorrow. The album is very much still being put together and a couple of tracks were recorded just a few days
ago and came in within a day or so of the event, still not completely mastered, but Clive wanted to share. In all, nine songs were played including the song
that is being considered for first single (not "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" or "Million Dollar Bill", but "Call You
Tonight" - again, it was suggested as a thought by Clive rather than a firm statement).
I saw comments about "A Song For You" somewhere here - Whitney has covered it for the album, but with an interesting take on it.
I have a few more things to share....but it's late.
Let me say this: The album is HOT. There were some songs that blew my mind. Whitney sounds GREAT. Some vocals are "chocolatey" as I like to call
it (and like it) - like "I Didn't Know My Own Strength", whilst some are crisp and clear and sound like Whitney...well, never left.
Whitney looked great - was in good spirits and later in the evening I was fortunate enough to meet her once again. I also met Clive Davis who was extremely
gracious.
I wanted to share that much - I will share more tomorrow. m.
