Was there an alternate version or arrangement of ILTY recorded? In the liner notes, the song's production credits list a choir but we only hear
Whitney's voice. I'm wondering if they recorded a version with the choir or perhaps the original version was longer as some here alluded to. Perhaps
the last chorus refrain wasn't the original ending. I, along with many others noticed how it seemed unnatural for Whitney to rise and rise and rise in the
bridge and then end with "...shine on me." That last line sounded as if they just pasted it in to make the transition. I bet the choir comes in when
Whitney begins to sing "...take me far away from the darkness..." and there was probably a couple of bars with her and the choir. Maybe Arista felt
it made the song lose its universal appeal by including the gospel choir.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Interesting observations. Don't know about ILTY. I like it the way it is. But I definitely miss the background vocals in IDKMOS. I think a ballad like this
(especially a Diane Warren one) needs these vocals at the climax.

Alot of people have continued to say that there was a 6:02min verison and now this!
I bet there is a totally different verison that we probably won't hear unless Whitney chooses to do it live in concert. |

A choir would have been cliché in both instances. If the emphasis in both songs is about "I" as in Whitney (I look to you,
I didn't know my own strength), it's powerful enough that it's her and only her.

I wouldn't go so far as to say a choir would've been cliche because the song is a spiritual prayer. Although it will mean different things to different
people, a choir would reinforce the spiritual aspect of the song. I do understand what your sayin' Papa about the emphasis being on I.
It was an observation that puzzled me. Why would a song list a choir(name of choir escapes me now) in the credits if it isn't in the song? Makes a fan wonder. |

Not gonna happen. I'd love to be proven wrong. But Whitney, for all her gospel background, has had lackluster "choir" backgrounds even on her
gospel cd. I always wondered what made her choose the Georgia Mass Choir - over Hezekiah Walker (which Cissy used) or Mississippi Mass Choir. OR her home
church choir. I just feel the GMC have always been watered down. They never had Mmmph! but thats MO. (And on the flip side, mayeb to appeal to the masses they
went with the more watered down choir - but then whats the point?)
Also, looking at her history, YNSA, could have should have had a NICE choir ala Brandy's One Voice. Whitney opted for lesser background vocals. Or someone did. Someone always is. I would love to see, hear Whitney stand flat footed and sing with a REAL choir. Somethin Somethin Baptist Church Mass Choir. IMO That will be Whitney at her vocal/performance peak. |

I smell a re-release. The albums momentum is going to be banana's. V103 is ATL and 92Q in Baltimore are starting to wear out KMDB". This Oprah
performance is getting ready to blow the roof of the album (O Called it first) lol I think in the day and age of the re-release it would be befitting warranted
the albums success. Again she's going to be the 1st artist in decade to debut an album without a video in circulation. Whitneys name and promise is selling
this album

Why don't this album include who is sanging the background on these songs. I know its a heavy dose of whitney in most songs but sometimes it sounds like a
different person singing either with her or no her at all. Its hard to tell at times...
