I hate to infect this perfectly positive thread with even a smidgen of negativity.  But McMillan's online/public persona and her work rub me the wrong way.  SMH.  What an utterly gratuitous tweet.  Sit down, Terry.  No one cares about that detail (i.e., whether you called Whitney or no).  Fans want to know if she's gracing the movie based on your schlocky book.  That's all.  I would imagine that Whitney's negotiations are with the big brass anyway.  Yes, we all know Whitney was kidding.  Ugggh.  If a fan asked her about calling Whitney, she should've ignored it.  Play along Terry, if you know what's good for you. LOL!

Anyway, back to positivity.  Whitney is a sunbeam in the AH interviews.  She sparkles.  And she actually looks more like her dad, although she has her mothers honeyed complexion (in this footage anyway).

Great post BA.  Ms McMillan's earlier tweet "clarifying" that she has never called Whitney before betrayed her own insecurity so this latest softening of her point only really reinforces that insecurity.  She needs Whitney Houston for her movie project and I don't know that she likes to be in a position where she needs Whitney (or anyone) to aid her career aspirations.  She needs to get on the team quickly. manish. 

So good to hear your usual insightful perspective, Manish.  I've been delighted to read you a few times in this thread.  A rare treat.  I know you're quite busy and can't post as often as some of us would like.  I had no idea that there was an earlier more defensive "clarifying" tweet from McMillan.  It won't surprise you that I don't follow her in print (books, twitter, nothing).  Hers is not a point of view that interests me at all.  The irony of her saying Whitney was obviously kidding is that her tweet only highlights her own humorlessness.

You're right: from what I can gather, she seems terribly insecure.  She could learn a thing or two from Whitney Houston, whose natural confidence allows her  to be generous and gracious to other entertainment figures.  Let's hope she doesn't take out her issues on Whitney's character Savannah in the script she's supposedly editing. LOL!  The studio needs to have good script doctor on hand just in case she does some hatchet job that needs suturing.

So glad Whitney is holding off on making a final decision about GTH.  The woman is very shrewd.  I don't think she gets enough credit for just how smart she is about the business.  It goes along with the wit and thoughtfulness that comes across so plainly in these latest interviews.  Notice how Whitney weighs every question very carefully before answering it--even questions that seems fairly lightweight or even disposable, where a canned answer would do?  I like that quality in people generally.  She literally thinks before she talks.  Take note, Terry!  Think before you tweet!  LOL!

Thanks for the kind words BA.  I throw in  ramble or two here and there.  This time around, I've been much more interested in reading what people have to say and as the mix of Whitney and movies isn't my main interest in her artistry, I don't always have that much to contribute. The style/genre of book that Terry McMillan writes isn't my natural reading zone but I did struggle through Waiting To Exhale (which I thought didn't really go anywhere) and might read Getting To Happy just for seeing what changes are made to the Savannah character to either accommodate or penalise Whitney Houston.

I started to follow Terry McMillan on twitter just this week and have already un-followed her.  I find some of her musings to be a bit troubling for someone who is an author.  She's too caught up in her own issues and is looking to somehow reflect them back onto the world.

Your comments here about Whitney holding off on making a decision about the movie are so on point.  Even if she's said she's "not going to say no", I always find the use of double negatives interesting because "not saying no" isn't explicitly "yes" either.  Whitney will do it, I'm sure, but it'll be subject to the character looking and feeling right for Whitney.

Finally, again, you're quite right about Whitney weighing every question to give the most appropriate reply in this run of interviews.  I also quite like that by the time she got to the Extra interview she's spelling out the Aaliyah story in a way that says "everyone's heard me talk about this on Access Hollywood so I'm just putting this down for context here". manish.
